Choreography. Light. Sound. Sculpture.
Chalasa dance company was co-founded by sculptor/fine artist Reuben Bechtold and choreographer Jahain Clark. The company combined choreography, light, sound and sculpture to create innovative works (1994-2006).
Chalasa was based in the South End community of Stamford, CT. There, they built their own dance theater in the Yale Lock Company building, a former factory built in 1913.
Chalasa created its own annual performance series, “Spring Fling.” They performed at the Stamford Rich Forum, the Palace Theatre, Lollapalooza (Randall’s Island), Worldfest and the Connecticut Dance Showcase at the Garde Arts Center (New London), where they appeared alongside Momix and Pilobolus.
Notable alumni include Cirque du Soleil's Sara Joel and recent America's Got Talent winner Kenichi Ebina, who currently performs excerpts from Chalasa's "Icarus."
